The Wedding Bathroom Basket…

There is little as frustrating as finding that pesky stray hair at a wedding and coming to the awful realisation that you have failed to remember to pack hairspray, or those fabulous new sandals cutting your ankles within an inch of their lives and remembering that you have come without flat shoes or plasters.

We have all been there ladies… desperately attempting to shove the entire contents of your bathroom toiletries box into your fabulous new clutch the morning of the wedding, and finally accepting that your lipstick and phone will just have to suffice! The Bathroom basket can prevent many of these minor issues becoming major catastrophies. Known in some circles as the Emergency Kit, this little basket of bits and bobs can really add a cute little touch to your big day, and save your wedding guests the ordeal of sore feet, flyaway hairs, or worse even, the horror of forgetting deodorant when all you want to do is dance the night away!

This little basket of trinkets has become really popular at Irish weddings over the past few years. I have seen many variations of the bathroom basket being a wedding performer. The good news is that it need not be a massive expense. Brides around the country love to fill their baskets with items from Penneys, Eurosaver shops, and local pharmacies. Another gem of a shop for small cosmetics and toiletries is Dealz, with stores nationwide where you can find an array of items to fill your basket with and it is as cheap as chips. Happy Bride, happy guests.. it’s a win, win situation! 🙂

What items should be put in this bathroom basket?

Keep it practical!

Basically toiletries that are easily accessible to your guests in order to freshen up at their convenience over the course of the day. As a bride, you may find yourself needing the assistance of the bathroom box throughout the night. I will provide a full checklist below of items that I have seen on my wedding travels and have found to be very practical. Not forgetting the men, there are items included below for the men’s bathroom kit.

  • Mini sewing kit ( This item is a must. I have witnessed brides using these in bathrooms at weddings, a very handy item for all… just in case)
  • Anti-perspirant deodorant ( Your guests will thank you for providing this item.)
  • Mouthwash and Dental Floss .
  • Toothpicks
  • Disposable Toothbrushes
  • Feminine Hygiene Products.
  • Hair spray.
  • Fragrances and After-shaves. (Body sprays are good. Alternatively, ask your local pharamacy or beauty counters at Brown Thomas for little perfume testers and pop them in your basket.)
  • Nail File
  • Packs of Chewing gum or mints ( boxes of tic-tacs are handy and inexpensive)
  • Hair clips.
  • Safety pins.
  • Inexpensive hair combs.
  • Lint Roller.
  • Nail file.
  • Sunscreen
  • Straws (just for fun)
  • Panadol
  • Hand wipes
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Earring backs (Saw these at a wedding once, genius idea!)
  • Lighters Vaseline.
  • Hair gel (For the men’s bathrooms)
  • Kleenex
  • Dry Shampoo
  • Backcombing brush.
  • Hand cream (Soap and glory do a great range of mini toiletries and they look pretty)
  • Babywipes.
  • Cotton ear-buds.

All of the above will ensure you and your guests can freshen up at any point of the day. Pack two baskets or boxes, one for the ladies and a separate kit for the men filling them with items that are gender specific. Your guests will really love you for providing them with these treats!

Don’t forget those dancing feet…

Nothing ruins that 1am attempt of that Dirty Dancing lift more than the 6 inch heels! Head to Penneys and pick up an array of flip flops. They are inexpensive and generally come in one size and pop them all in a separate basket so that your guests can dance the night away!

What sort of basket should I use?

There are so any versions of the bathroom emergency kit, so do not feel restricted to using a basket. Penneys have beautiful wicker baskets at the moment for €8. Tiger stores nationwide also stock beautiful woven baskets in black and white for a mere €4. Alternatively use a hamper basket and perhaps decorate it with some paper from a craft shop. Be creative!

Should I leave a personal message to guests?

This is not necessary, but it can add a nice touch to your bathroom hampers. Little messages such as the ones I have included below are easily found on the internet, or perhaps write one yourself! These are easily printed off on coloured paper and present them in a little frame. There are beautiful frames in Penneys and Dunnes for under €5 that you could always use again in your own home.

So there you have it!

The wedding bathroom kit is super easy and inexpensive to put together! Your guests will love you for it! Don’t leave it all until the last minute, even ask your bridesmaids to help you with it. Get searching for little bargains ahead of your big day! You may need to use it yourself before the day is out!

Happy planning! x
